Message From MARS Foundation

Motorcycle Safety
Resources

Ride Smart. Ride Prepared. Ride Home.

DOT-approved helmet — always
Ride within your skill level
Stay visible on every road
Expect the unexpected
Look twice — save a life

We believe every rider deserves the knowledge, skills, and support needed to stay safe on the road. Whether you're a new rider, an experienced motorcyclist, or a driver sharing the road, education and awareness save lives.

Our mission is simple: honor lives lost, protect lives riding, and help prevent tragedies before they happen.

Our Mission
Honor lives lost
Protect lives riding
Prevent tragedies before they happen
01

Wear Proper Safety Gear

Protective gear can significantly reduce the severity of injuries during a crash. Always wear:

A DOT-approved helmet
Eye protection
Gloves
Long sleeves and pants
Over-the-ankle footwear
Reflective or high-visibility clothing
02

Ride Within Your Limits

Know your skill level and experience. Confidence should never replace caution. Avoid:

Excessive speeds
Aggressive riding
Riding while fatigued
Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs
03

Stay Visible

Many motorcycle crashes occur because riders are not seen. To increase visibility:

Use headlights at all times
Wear bright or reflective gear
Position yourself where drivers can see you
Avoid lingering in blind spots
04

Expect the Unexpected

Always assume other drivers may not see you. Be prepared for:

Sudden lane changes
Distracted drivers
Vehicles pulling out unexpectedly
Road hazards — gravel, potholes, and debris
05

Ride Prepared for Conditions

Road conditions change fast. Stay prepared:

Reduce speed in rain, fog, or low light
Increase following distance in wet conditions
Be alert for slippery surfaces at intersections
Check weather before every ride
06

Get Trained & Stay Educated

Knowledge is the strongest form of protection on the road:

Complete a certified motorcycle safety course
Practice emergency braking and evasive maneuvers
Refresh skills annually, even experienced riders
Stay updated on local traffic laws

Confidence should never replace caution. Every time you gear up, you are making a decision that protects not just yourself, but everyone who loves you.

Motorcycles are smaller
and harder to detect.

Motorcycles are smaller and harder to detect than other vehicles. One moment of inattention can have permanent consequences. Drivers play a critical role in keeping riders safe — every time they get behind the wheel.

Driver safety habits
Check mirrors and blind spots before every lane change
Look twice at intersections — scan specifically for motorcycles
Allow extra following distance behind motorcycles
Use turn signals early and consistently
Never drive distracted — put the phone away
Be patient — never tailgate or pressure a rider
Yield to motorcycles as you would any vehicle

The most powerful habit on the road

Look Twice.
Save a Life.

A second look takes less than two seconds. For a rider, it can be the difference between making it home and not. One small habit — one huge impact. Make it yours.

DOT-Approved Helmet

The single most important piece of gear. Protects against traumatic brain injury. Always DOT or ECE certified.

Gloves

Protect hands and wrists in a fall. Choose gloves with palm sliders and knuckle protection.

Eye Protection

Shield eyes from wind, debris, and UV light. Use a full-face helmet visor or riding-specific eyewear.

Riding Jacket & Pants

Leather or armored textile with CE-rated armor at elbows, shoulders, and knees for abrasion protection.

Over-Ankle Boots

Protect ankles, feet, and lower legs. Choose boots with ankle support and oil-resistant soles.

High-Visibility Gear

Bright colors and reflective strips make you significantly more visible to other drivers, especially at night.
